FENCING IS
Traditions
This is one of the oldest, most beautiful and fastest sports on our planet, by the way, fencing has been a regular part of the program of every Summer Olympic Games since the first Games of modern history in 1896. Modern fencing is very different from staged scenes from films or theatrical productions, it is an extremely fast, graceful and gentlemanly sport. The feeling and taste of victory in the fencing game cannot be compared with anything, the intensity of passions, excitement, the struggle of minds and blades on the fencing strip simply cannot leave anyone indifferent
Safety
This is a truly unique and the only type of martial arts in which there is absolutely no contact with the opponent's body, since points are awarded only when the end of the blade is touch. Modern equipment and blades minimize the possibility of injury or bruising
Opportunities
Absolutely anyone can start fencing and claim Olympic gold if they want to. Height, weight, gender and physique do not matter. Moreover, there is practically no time frame for starting a career in this sport. You can bring your child at any age. For example, Sergey Bida (Olympic silver medalist) began his fencing career at the age of 13. Sergey's grandmother Valentina Rastvorova (Olympic Champion Roma 1960) took up the blade for the first time at the age of 18. At the same time, fencing holds the record for athletic longevity. Imre Geza (Hungary) earned his personal Olympic silver medal at the age of 42 (Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro 2016)
Development
The versatility of fencing is simply amazing. From the very first lesson, the student begins to actively develop physical strength, coordination and fine motor skills of the hands, as well as dexterity, flexibility, reaction and attention. But, in addition, a qualitative leap will be observed in strategy, decision-making speed, analysis and cunning. It is because of this that fencing is called sports chess
University
Almost all colleges and universities in the United States have either an NCAA National Fencing Association program or a competitive club program. The list of the top 20 universities published in US News and World Report shows that fourteen universities have NCAA programs, and the remaining six have competitive club programs. Thus, an applicant with fencing experience has an advantage when applying to college. Colleges and universities recruit athletes all over the world to participate in their NCAA teams or sports clubs. Fencing can provide the necessary advantage that children and parents seek in the process of enrolling in highly competitive colleges. Many of them continued to practice fencing in college, and some were offered scholarships to participate in team competitions. Fencers have an undeniable advantage when applying to college. 32% of male fencers and 38% of female fencers continue to practice fencing in college. Compare this with football (7.8%) or basketball (5.9% of men and 6.3% of women).
